Spotlight: Gabriel García Márquez
Gabriel García Márquez

Born in 1927 Aracataca, Magdalena, Colombia . He is an amazing writer that has inspired me to write a few of my short stories and that I am sure will still do in the future. His style is both creative and feels natural at the same time. In his writing he brings to life elements that might seem too mundane to us, but he gives them each a life on its own. Like painting a paint with words. There is so much to say about him, if you want to learn more about him read the wikipedia entry: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gabriel_García_Márquez
Anyways, here is one of his short stories and I hope you enjoy it:

L’autobus
L’Autobus

Note: First Draft of L'Autobus, will look forward feedback! Thanks.
Sergio gets on the bus after soccer practices at school and he immediately feels the warm heater that makes his hands feel like they are burning. He hates practicing during the winter because his legs and hands get so cold that they hurt at times. But, he still loves playing soccer and he has since he was five years old back in Mexico. Resting his head against the cold bus’ window makes him remember when in he was ten years old and he used to cool off his head with a bottle of a cold Coca-Cola after a long day of playing soccer with his friends. Now he wishes he had a bottle of Coca-Cola even if it was freezing outside it always reminds him of the good times he had with his friends and lately he has been missing Mexico a lot.
The Crying
The Crying
The cries of the babies break the silence of the cold and dark night. The wind closes and opens the wooden windows now and then. The fall leaves that have not been picked up making small mountains that the wind breaks and makes them again in a distant corner of the brown grass. On the second floor of the house a shadow of a woman is reflected into the large wooden wall that has pieces of yellowish wallpaper hanging-out. An oil lamp is all that is illuminating the room.
“When will all you stop crying? It is driving me crazy!” she says, holding one baby with one hand and the bucket of water with the other. She puts the baby on the metallic container and pours the warm water into it, while the other baby cries from across the room. She pours some water with her hand over the baby face to wash him. Her long and sharp nail scratches the baby’s nose and blood begins to pour out. The baby cries out louder with tears running down from his eyes. The woman tries to calm him but she scratches begin his ears and the baby screams in pain.

Rotkäppchen (Little Red Ridding Hood)
Once there was a little girl, called Little Red Riding Hood, for she wore always that red riding hood. Now her mother had made her a suit of clothing for her to wear, and this suit of clothing had been made completely out of metal. Her mother then went away to stay alone in a little cottage in the woods, and told the girl, "only when you have worn out this suit of clothing shall you come and visit me." So the girl, nodding solemnly, bade her mother goodbye and set to work to wearing out her suit of metal clothing.
Everyday she rubbed herself against the walls of her home, so that the clothing would be worn out sooner. Everyday, day-by-day, without fail she would rub herself against the walls, till her clothes became thinner, and thinner till she completely wore it out. Elated, she made some bread with butter and wheat cakes for her mother, intending them as gifts, and left her house for her mother's cottage in the woods.
Along the way, just as she was about to enter the woods, she encountered a wolf, which asked for some of her cakes and bread. She refused, for it was to be a gift to her mother. Unfazed, the wolf asked if she would be traveling via the road of pins or the road of needles. The young girl replied that she would be using the road of pins. Thus, the wolf ran quickly down the road of needles and knocked upon the door to the girl's mother's cottage.

How to Build a Pillow Coffin
In order to do that you need to do be at your grandmother’s house on vacations near Christmas. You will need to have a little sister that is going to obey you. Choose a room that is far away from view and close shut the door so no one can see you or your sister. A raining day outside will make this even more exciting, with the wind blowing and the thunders, now and then isolating you as if you were in a castle where a vampire would live.
The bed can be used as if was a coffin where a vampire would sleep in. Of course you’ll make your little sister the vampire since you got to arrange the place to look scary. Place pillows around your little sister and tell her to close her eyes just like in the vampire movies. She will look like a vampire with her pale face and dark red lips. Close the curtains next to the bed. The room will get so dark that only thing that will illuminate it will be a candle in your hand. I forgot to mention that you will need another four stick candles to place around the metallic bed frame at each of its post and you’ll light them up.
